House Resolution 48

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PILLOW ACADEMY MUSTANGS BOYS SOCCER TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2017 MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS CLASS AAAA DIVISION 2 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on February 25, 2017, the Pillow Academy Mustangs Boys Soccer Team defeated the Lamar School squad by a score of 4-2 to claim the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Class AAAA Division 2 State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, even though the Lamar Raiders scored within the first 30 seconds, the Pillow Academy Mustangs never waivered and scored three unanswered goals in the first half, holding off the Raiders for the championship win; and

     WHEREAS, the Mustangs team statistics were impressive, and there were outstanding headers, strikes, penalty kicks and goals by individual players, but the key to this team's success was the constant team atmosphere and year-round hard work; and

     WHEREAS, the Mustangs Boys Soccer Team is comprised of:  Brady McDaniel, Nelson Hodges, Bailey Vaughan, Walt Pillow, Juan Carlos Hernandez, Porter Spell, Collin Short, Walker Coleman, Jaden Simcox, Austin Alderman, Graham Boggan, Gavin Lessley, Luiz Sanchez Moreno, Leland Simcox, Pierce Cole, Alex Lindsey, Christian Belk, Jonathan Barnes, Logan Harvey, Sunjay Chawla, Cody Holmes, Peyton Turner, Phillip Rustom, Noah Woodard, Landon Goatzinger, Noah Larry and Jeffrey Bready; Head Coach Serafin Samon; and Assistant Coach Jim Crowder; and

     WHEREAS, throughout their season of superior play, several stand out Mustangs were recognized for their athletic agility and prowess, including the naming of Logan Harvey, Walker Coleman, Walt Pillow, Collin Short and Sunjay Chawla to the All-Division Soccer Team; and

     WHEREAS, the Mustangs have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Serafin Samon and Assistant Coach Jim Crowder, who have broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Pillow Academy Mustangs Boys Soccer Team, whose excellence on and off the field brings great honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pillow Academy Mustangs Boys Soccer Team upon winning the MAIS Class AAAA Division 2 State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Serafin Samon on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
