A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF GEORGE B. PATTON, JR., UPON THE DEDICATION OF "THE SHOP II" IN HIS MEMORY.

     WHEREAS, after a life of dedication to his profession and providing excellent service to his community, The Shop II held a dedication of the new store in memory of George B. Patton, Jr., on December 15, 2016; and

     WHEREAS, the second of eight children, Mr. George B. Patton, Jr., was born to George Patton, Sr., and Mable Thompson Patton in Hinds County, Mississippi, on April 18, 1938; and

     WHEREAS, after receiving his education at Sumner Hill High School, Mr. Patton entered the workforce at age 16 as a farmer, and while working on the farm with his father, he became quite fond of working with horses and learned the value of hard work; and

     WHEREAS, a quiet and humble man of few words, Mr. Patton was a devoted Christian who worshipped at Mt. Hood, where he served on the Deacon Board, as well as treasurer and was a member of the male choir; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Patton was employed at Jackson Packing Company, Consolidated Packing and Manville Forestry Products for a number of years until he decided to become a self-employed auto mechanic, a profession he remained dedicated to for over 40 years as the sole owner of Patton Auto Used Parts; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his work at Patton Auto Used Parts, Mr. Patton was active in the community as a member of the Clinton Branch of the NAACP, the Madison and Hinds Adjoining Counties Second Christian Institute, the United States Trotting Association and the St. Paul Lodge No. 343; and

     WHEREAS, never one to shy away from extra work, Mr. Patton, the personification of a modern-day Good Samaritan, found time to help others by visiting sick people at hospitals, nursing homes and even their homes when he had time; and

     WHEREAS, known as "Paw-Paw" to his grandchildren, Mr. Patton cherished his family and friends and he modeled a diligent work ethic for his family who will continue his excellent legacy; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the lives and accomplishments of hardworking Mississippians, such as Mr. Patton, whose name will be a blessing and good luck charm for The Shop II:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and legacy of George B. Patton, Jr., upon the dedication of "The Shop II" in his memory, and express well wishes for its success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of George B. Patton, Jr., to the proprietors of The Shop II and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
