A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PRENTISS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NARCOTICS AGENT GRADY SMITH UPON BEING NAMED THE CRIME STOPPERS OF NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI OFFICER OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding career to date, Prentiss County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Agent Grady Smith was named the Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi Officer of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, by getting drugs off the street, Deputy Smith makes his community a better place and helps protect future generations; and

     WHEREAS, Deputy Smith joined the Prentiss County Sheriff's Office as a reserve officer then as a part-time deputy in January 2007, and three years later he was hired as a full-time patrol deputy; and

     WHEREAS, after a ride-along with narcotics agent Joey Clark, Deputy Smith felt the calling to move to drug enforcement, where his investigative skills helped him find hidden drugs in all types of hiding places, including barbecue grills; and

     WHEREAS, Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar nominated Deputy Smith because of his diligence in recognizing the presence of drugs on both routine stops or in long-term investigations, ensuring that the harmful substances are taken off the street; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his role as a narcotics agent, Deputy Smith is also certified to train others to use the Project Lifesaver tracking equipment to locate children, seniors and the mentally challenged who wear the special tracking bracelet; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives, to recognize the accomplishments of our state's sworn officers, such as Deputy Smith, whose dedication to protecting and serving our citizens brings great pride to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Prentiss County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Agent Grady Smith upon being named the Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi Officer of the Year, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Grady Smith, Prentiss County Sheriff Randy Tolar and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
