A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING BLACK CREEK CANOE RENTAL UPON THE AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF ITS 40TH ANNIVERSARY AND EXPRESSING BEST WISHES FOR ITS CONTINUED SUCCESS AND GROWTH IN THE FUTURE.
WHEREAS, 40 years ago, in 1977, Black Creek Canoe Rental was founded and has since become the oldest and most experienced outfitter of the Black Creek, a wild and scenic river that runs through the Desoto National Forest in Southeast Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, at Mississippi's premier canoeing stream, a person who yearns for the outdoors can leave their troubles in the big city and venture down the beautiful Black Creek, a 21-mile portion of which has been designated a National Wild and Scenic Stream, enjoying the exquisite scenery of the Desoto National Forest on one of six trips that can last from a few hours to overnight excursions lasting two to three days; and
WHEREAS, in addition to restful and relaxing canoe trips, Black Creek Canoe Rental, Mississippi's preeminent nature seekers' paradise, also offers camping, swimming, kayaking, fishing and hiking, providing a true taste of the beautiful Mississippi outdoors to anyone who wants to exchange their daily, grinding schedules for the smell of pine as they bask in the brilliant light of the sun; and
WHEREAS, Black Creek Canoe Rental is a true fisherman's paradise, presenting anglers with the opportunity to catch red bellies, bass, catfish and bream, and for those looking to escape the "rat race," they can commune with nature while they hang out and enjoy the company of their family and friends; and
WHEREAS, the waters of the Black Creek are clear but have a brownish tint due to tannic acid produced from the decaying leaves of trees that line the creek and shed for new growth, and along the winding stream, canoers and kayakers can enjoy the utter beauty and fragrant perfumes of Mississippi's state tree and flower, the Magnolia; and
WHEREAS, animal lovers will truly feel at home with their furry friends when they take adventures with Black Creek Canoe Rental, as it is not uncommon to see deer, wild turkey, squirrels, ducks, owls, great blue herons and beavers along the creek; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend fine institutions in Mississippi that have left a profound impact on her citizens by offering them the opportunity to become one with nature and continue to serve a positive, vital role in present and future vitality and sustainability of this great Magnolia State:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Black Creek Canoe Rental upon the auspicious occasion of its 40th anniversary and express best wishes for its continued success and growth in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the owners of Black Creek Canoe Rental, Brandon and Susie Pearce, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
