House Resolution 8

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ALL OF AARP'S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, AND DESIGNATING FEBRUARY 9, 2017, AS AARP MISSISSIPPI DAY AT THE CAPITOL.

WHEREAS, in furtherance of its mission to help Mississippians 50-plus years old live life to the fullest, AARP advocates nationally for its members on critical priorities, such as strengthening Social Security, protecting seniors' access to their doctors and ensuring all Americans have independence and choice as they age; and

WHEREAS, AARP serves as a one-stop resource for information on the 50-plus population of Mississippi, and offers programs and tools that help Mississippians make the best decisions about their health and financial security; and

WHEREAS, in addition to providing information for its members, AARP of Mississippi has fought for the passage of laws protecting its 285,000 members, including the Uniform Adult Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act in 2014 and The Caregiver Act in 2015; and

WHEREAS, AARP helps its members prepare for retirement by providing unbiased online tools to help people make effective financial and health-related retirement decisions; and

WHEREAS, most of AARP's members want to stay in their own homes and communities for as long as possible, and to that end AARP helps cities, towns and counties become great places for all ages, and also provides its members with tools to find a job or start their own business so they can help improve their community by growing its economy; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of State Director Kimberly Campbell, there is no doubt that AARP will not only continue the great work it has done in the past, but will build upon that work to accomplish even more for its members; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize those organizations that take care of our citizens and make sure they have choice, control and independence through every stage of their lives:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby designate February 9, 2017, as AARP Mississippi Day at the Capitol and extend best wishes for continued success in AARP's very important mission.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to AARP Mississippi State Director Kimberly L. Campbell, Esq., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
