House Concurrent Resolution 99

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NESHOBA CENTRAL LADY ROCKETS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, after defeating West Point 56-45, the Neshoba Central Lady Rockets Girls Basketball Team claimed the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, while the Lady Rockets were not favored to win state, entering the region tournament with a 13-10 record, the team would not lose again on their way to take home the title; and

     WHEREAS, physically, West Point was taller than the Lady Rockets, but Neshoba Central's tenacious defense battled West Point up and down the court and under the basket, finished with nine steals and numerous rebounds; and

     WHEREAS, the championship game was a nail-biter in the first half, as the biggest lead by either team was four points, but the Lady Rockets pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Wave 17-5; and

     WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Rockets have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Fred Morris, who has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Lady Rockets, whose excellence on and off the court brings honor to their school, their families and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Neshoba Central Lady Rockets Girls Basketball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Fred Morris on behalf of the team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
