House Concurrent Resolution 64

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING DAVIS MAGNET INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR BEING RECOGNIZED AS THE NUMBER ONE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE STATE BY SCHOOLDIGGER.COM.

WHEREAS, Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School in Jackson, Mississippi, has been ranked first among 403 elementary schools in the state by the school ranking site SchoolDigger.com for its high test score last year; and

WHEREAS, Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School, a school with a recognized history of progressive education, is dedicated to providing students with a strong foundation for lifelong learning as well as the ability to and desire to make a positive contribution to the shared humanity of the world; and

WHEREAS, all students, parents, community members, and faculty work together to provide inquiry-based, transdisciplinary instructional experiences that bring the complex and challenging world to life in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, previously, Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education and consistently receives an "A" rating from the Mississippi Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School received the coveted distinction in part because the dedicated and hard-working faculty and staff as well as the focused and encouraging parents and community members who worked extremely hard not just during the assessment period but also during the entire year; and

WHEREAS, while the school traditionally holds a ranking in the top ten, it is very difficult to maintain with the ever-changing educational climate, so the newest number one ranking is a true testament of the determined student body, teachers and parents; and

WHEREAS, students at Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School are exposed to Spanish and sign language instruction and participate in Accelerated Reader, and the school also works with the University of Mississippi to provide science-based instruction to all grades; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the excellent academic progress made by schools such as Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School, which have brought honor to their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School for being recognized as the number one elementary school in the state by SchoolDigger.com, and extend best wishes to school administrators, teachers and students on this auspicious moment in Mississippi history for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Davis Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School Principal Kathleen Grigsby and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
