A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING BRIAN FLEMING FOR BEING NAMED THE 2016 MISSISSIPPI MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AND RECOGNIZING HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN SPORTING CLAYS.

     WHEREAS, in recognition of his determination and dedication to sporting clays, Brian Fleming was honored as the 2016 Mississippi Male Athlete of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, the 47-year-old hit 93 out of 100 targets in his most recent outing at the 2016 State Games, taking home the gold medal and solidifying his place at the top of the sport in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a form of clay pigeon shooting, sporting clays involves shooting clays from 10 to 15 different shooting stations laid out over natural terrain; and

     WHEREAS, Brian is not new to earning the gold at the State Games, having previously been the Mississippi Sporting Clays State Champion four times; and

     WHEREAS, Brian has also been a Zone 6 Champion, which includes Mississippi, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana, and has won a silver medal in the 2014 and 2015 State Games; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to the physical challenges associated with the sport, Brian has stated he enjoys the mental challenge of the sport each and every time he shoots; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the outstanding athletes of our state, such as Brian Fleming, whose dedication to sporting clays brings great pride to his family, friends and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate Brian Fleming for being honored as the 2016 Mississippi Male Athlete of the Year and extending best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Brian Fleming and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
