Senate Resolution 6

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION TO COMMEND SENATOR NANCY ADAMS COLLINS FOR HER DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, Senator Nancy Adams Collins has represented Senate District 6, which includes Lee and Pontotoc Counties, for four years.  In Nancy Collins, the citizens of Tupelo, Mississippi, and District 6 have had effective representation from a dedicated public servant with health provider experience as an RN, Speech Therapist and Limited OB Sonographer; and

     WHEREAS, she was elected in 2011 in a special election to fill the seat of Congressman Alan Nunnelee.  Senator Collins represented strong Christian and conservative values.  She served on the following committees:  Accountability, Efficiency, Transparency, Chair; PEER, Chair; Education, Vice Chair; Agriculture; Appropriations; Forestry; Public Health and Welfare; and Veterans and Military Affairs; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Collins' key legislative interests have included:  Charter School legislation, stipulations for public assistance, and authored the landmark bill establishing publicly funded vouchers for special needs children; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Collins was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on November 10, 1947.  She is married to Jim Collins and has four children:  Adam Paxton; Amy Blossom, MD; Conner Collins; and Josh Collins.  Her religious affiliation is Methodist; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Collins' service has been marked by her commitment to success and recognized leadership, sound judgment, civility, courtesy and fairness.  She has set the highest standard in all of her many roles:  wife, mother, health care provider, community leader and leader in the Mississippi Senate, and as a true friend.  Nancy's service honored both the Mississippi Senate and this great State that she loved and served:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and recognize Senator Nancy Adams Collins, whose outstanding service enriched everyone with whom she was associated, and we wish Nancy and her family much success in her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator Nancy Collins and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
