Senate Concurrent Resolution 680

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SALTILLO HIGH SCHOOL "TIGERS" ARCHERY TEAM AND COACH JEFF CATES FOR WINNING THEIR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, teams from Northeast Mississippi made it a clean sweep with three titles at the Archery In Mississippi Schools (AIMS) State Championships on April 4, 2016, at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center in Jackson. Saltillo 5A, South Pontotoc 3A and Tremont 1A were the winners. Saltillo qualifies as a dynasty after winning a fifth consecutive 5A title in the five years that the school has had a team. "The team has a lot of God-given talent," Saltillo Coach Jeff Cates said of his team. "A lot of young people stepped up today. I'm real happy"; and

WHEREAS, Saltillo was led by Shelton Tutor with a score of 288, Logan Adams with 285 and Hailey Rider with 282. As in bowling, a perfect score is 300. Rider had the day's best score by a girl while Tutor fell one point short of the best boys' score; and

WHEREAS, the Saltillo High School "Tigers" Archery Team Roster is: Braden Cates, Shelton Tutor, Dalton Mears, Bryton Gargus, Mark McCoy, Dylon Letson, Hailey Rider, Montana Connally, Clay Finney, Dalton Scruggs, Austin Cherry, Austin Kellum, Hunter Blankenship, Andrew Walker, Bryant Edwards, Kelsey Pearce, Sloan Wallis, Pam Allen, Dakota Cornelius, Trey McCarter, Josh Peek, Tucker Jackson, Peyton Warren, Preston Rigby, A.J. Gunter, Tye Washington, Brittany George, Ally Grace Johnson, Bri Murphy, Verene Schurr, Karissa Wilson, Kristil Robinson, Brandon Dillard, Britton Smith, Dalton Tutor, Peyton Temple, Matt Alley, Zeke Romito, Logan Adams, Hailey Bramble, Madison Floyd, Emma McCormick, Morgan Robinson, Haylee Fowler, Kalie Daniels, Brittany Crosby, Abby Rinehart, Maggie White, Ben Johnson, Hannah Harwood, Kameron Johnson, Baha Ibrahim and Houston Parker; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a 5th successful season by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Saltillo High School "Tigers" Archery Team and Coach Jeff Cates for winning their fifth consecutive State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches and parents for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Cates for the team, Saltillo Principal Tim DeVaughn, forwarded to the Lee County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
