Senate Concurrent Resolution 638

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOONEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "LADY DEVILS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH MICHAEL SMITH FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, Booneville High School's leading scorer Adallice Young scored 14 of her game-high 23 points after halftime, and Choctaw Central made 1 of 19 field goals in the second half as the Lady Devils rallied for a 58-49 victory at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 12, 2016. That was when the Lady Devils had the opportunity to win the school's second Championship, and they delivered. After falling behind 21-9 in the first quarter and trailing 32-21 at halftime against Choctaw Central, a different Booneville team came out for the second half; and

WHEREAS, "Championships are supposed to be hard to win," said Booneville Coach Michael Smith, who has led the Lady Devils to three straight Championship appearances. "When we played that poorly in the first half, we were very fortunate to just be around. To hold them to one field goal in the second half, that's just defense. Defensively, that's just bearing down and saying we're going to get stops. That's the difference in the game"; and

WHEREAS, the 2016 Booneville High School "Lady Devils" Championship Roster is: Adallice Young, Kabrina Hill, Dae Dae Norton, Kaylee Stephenson, Zoe Anglin, Kristin Ragin, Lexie Michael, Kristen Perrigo, Lexie Pharr, Kinsley Murphy, Maria Lauderdale, Shmia Williams, Maleeka Patterson, Elly Nash, Morgan Goss, Anoiha Mauraza, Cora Geno, Emily Baker, Kaitlyn Cunningham, Loretta Polanco and Micaela Stephens; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a championship season by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Booneville High School "Lady Devils" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Michael Smith for winning the MHSAA Class 3A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Smith for the team, Booneville Principal Terry King, forwarded to the Prentiss County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
