A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BOGUE CHITTO "LADY BOBCATS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH CHRISTI TERRELL FOR WINNING ITS SIXTH CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND FIRST SINCE 1995.

     WHEREAS, senior guard Zariah Matthews scored 24 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and four assists to lead Bogue Chitto High School to a 57-31 win over Shaw in the Class 1A Championship at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 10, 2016; and

     WHEREAS, Matthews had more points (22) than Shaw through three quarters as the Lady Bobcats led 44-21.  Bogue Chitto (31-3) won its sixth State Championship and the first since 1995, ending the season on a 21-game winning streak in which it won those contests by an average of 32.2 points.  Shakirianna Jefferson added 10 points for Bogue Chitto, while Taneshia May had eight points and nine rebounds; and

     WHEREAS, Bogue Chitto Coach Christi Terrell said, "The girls have played hard over the years, and the Championship has been a long time coming.  It's been something that we definitely wanted.  We are just super excited.  A proud coach would be an understatement"; and

     WHEREAS, the 2016 Lady Bobcats Girls Basketball Team Championship Roster is:  Lineka Newson, Zariah Matthews, Taneshia May, Terrah Nelson, Tukiyah Goldbolt, Shakirianna Jefferson, Baileigh Jackson, Spraggins Sheryl, Karly Leake, Cheyenne Hall, Karlie Williams, Charlsie Wilson, Christian Black, Perstashia Henderson and Kylie Hux; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a dream season by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Bogue Chitto "Lady Bobcats" Girls Basketball Team and Coach Christi Terrell for winning its sixth Class 1A State Championship and the first since 1995, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Terrell for the team, Bogue Chitto Interim Principal Garette Sartin, forwarded to the Lincoln County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
