Senate Concurrent Resolution 619

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP AND CHARITABLE CANCER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS OFFERED BY MCKESSON CORPORATION.

WHEREAS, McKesson Corporation is in business for better health.  As Americas's oldest and largest health care services company, McKesson provides pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and information technologies to customers in every segment of the industry.  McKesson Corporation has a 360-degree view of health care and is proud to be an integral part of the health care system in Mississippi.  McKesson, a Fortune 11 company, serves more than 50% of United States hospitals, 20% of physicians, and 100% of health plans.  As the largest pharmaceutical distributor in North America, it delivers one-third of all medications used every day; and

WHEREAS, McKesson partners with its employees and customers across the health care spectrum to achieve better health.  The company recently released its Corporate Social Responsibility Report, CSR365, that reflects how every day it is committed to community engagement, diversity, and inclusion, employee health and safety, philanthropy, sustainability and supplier diversity; and

WHEREAS, the highlight of the company's community engagement is its strategic focus on cancer management.  To maximize its impact, McKesson has aligned its volunteer program with the McKesson Foundation's priority funding area.  Both focus on cancer management, and in particular, providing nonmedical direct services to low-income cancer patients.  This is an area of great need that aligns closely with core competencies as a health care company.  This initiative distributes more than 35,000 cancer care packages created by McKesson employees to patients in more than 175 locations by McKesson Foundation's Giving Comfort Program; and

WHEREAS, through the McKesson Volunteer Grants Program, the company also encourages and supports emp1oyees' volunteer activities by providing grants linked to individual or team volunteer involvement with no personal monetary donation required.  This commitment to corporate civic engagement in the communities has won notice.  McKesson was recognized as the Community Health Partner of the Year by the San Francisco Business Times in 2014, and most recently in 2015 received the Volunteer Center's Corporate Community Involvement Award.  McKesson also won the 2015 C. Everett Koop National Health Award for its wellness program during 2012-2014.  The prestigious award recognizes employee health improvement and cost savings and was also named one of Fortune Magazine's "Most Admired Companies", leading the way in innovation, social responsibility, financial soundness and quality of products and services; and

WHEREAS, this corporate citizen's focus on better health also extends to work in public policy.  They offer constructive solutions to challenging health care issues and serve as a resource on how to improve patient safety, reduce cost and variability of care, and how to improve the quality and efficiency of health care delivery in Mississippi; and it is with great pride that we commend this community involvement by a corporate citizen dedicated to improving the health of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize the corporate citizenship and charitable cancer management programs offered by McKesson Corporation and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to its administration and employees.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Board of Directors of McKesson Corporation and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
