A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE RECORD OF ACHIEVEMENT AND CONSERVATION ENFORCEMENT LEADERSHIP OF MASTER SERGEANT TERRY MILES ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER 30 YEARS WITH THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE, FISHERIES AND PARKS.

     WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Terry Miles has served the State of Mississippi as a dedicated Conservation Officer for over 29 years.  Those who have been privileged to work with him will attest that he is as enthusiastic today in the performance of his duties as he was at the beginning of his law enforcement career.  He is a well-respected professional who routinely goes above and beyond the call of duty to assist his colleagues throughout the agency, as well as the law enforcement community at large; and

     WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Miles teaches hunter education and boating safety classes in Claiborne County and is thorough in his presentations.  He is involved in numerous church events where he promotes the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and its programs in conservation; and

     WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Miles' excellence is portrayed daily by his absolute dedication for his profession.  He is the type of Conservation Officer who can handle any situation that comes his way; and

     WHEREAS, along with being a Conservation Officer for 29 years, Master Sergeant Miles has also served 36 years with the U.S. Armed Forces.  During his military career he served three Combat tours in Afghanistan and achieved the rank of Command Sergeant Major with the 2nd Battalion 2Oth United States Special Forces where he earned two Bronze Stars.  In 2015, he assisted the Claiborne County Sheriff's Department by leading the search for the recovery and return of over $150,000.00 of stolen hunting and farming equipment in Claiborne County.  This year alone he has rescued approximately 25 boaters from the Mississippi River and her tributaries, some of which were at night and during severe weather.  He also was involved in a three-day search and recovery for a 21-year-old drowning victim in the Mississippi River floodwaters near the Town of Fort Adams.  Master Sergeant Miles has been an outstanding officer his entire career.  He has assisted the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Southwest Mississippi Drug Task Force with the serving of numerous warrants involving the sale of narcotics.  He has trained rookie officers in the various technical and professional skills required of a Mississippi Conservation Officer.  He is also a Third Degree Black Belt and Karate Instructor.  He was awarded Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for the State of Mississippi in 2013; and

     WHEREAS, Master Sergeant Terry Miles is an outstanding example for professional law enforcement personnel; and it is with great pride that we recognize his record of achievement and community involvement which has brought honor to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the record of achievement and conservation enforcement leadership of Master Sergeant Terry Miles on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and extend our best wishes to Terry and his family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Master Sergeant Terry Miles and the Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
