Senate Concurrent Resolution 565

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION DESIGNATING THE FIRST WEEK IN FEBRUARY 2016 AS "ENROLLED AGENT WEEK IN MISSISSIPPI" TO RECOGNIZE THE ROLE OF ENROLLED AGENTS IN THE TAX INDUSTRY IN OUR STATE.

WHEREAS, the enrolled agent profession dates back to 1884 when, after questionable claims had been presented for Civil War losses, Congress acted to regulate persons who represented citizens in their dealings with the U.S. Treasury Department; and

WHEREAS, the enrolled agent has been important to both the Mississippi taxpayers and to the Mississippi Department of Revenue; and

WHEREAS, enrolled agents assist taxpayers with issues from the annual compliance filing of their tax return to more complex issues of Audit, Liens, Levy, Appeals and Collections; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby designate the week starting February 1, 2016, to be known as "Enrolled Agent Week in Mississippi" and recognize the Mississippi Society of Enrolled Agents (MSSEA) and its enrolled agent members for their role in the tax industry of Mississippi.
