AN ACT TO GRANT IMMUNITY TO CERTAIN PEOPLE WHO VOLUNTEER PROFESSIONAL SERVICES IMMEDIATELY AFTER A DISASTER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  A licensed engineer, licensed architect, licensed surveyor, licensed contractor, licensed subcontractor, or other individual working under the direct supervision of the licensed individual who participates in emergency response activities under the direction of, or in connection with, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency or Federal Emergency Management Agency shall not be liable for any civil damages as a result of any acts, services, or omissions provided without compensation in the volunteer capacity if the individual acts as a reasonably prudent person would have acted under the same or similar circumstances.  The immunity provided in this section applies to any acts, services, or omissions provided within thirty (30) days after declaration of the specific emergency for which immunity is claimed.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2016.
