AN ACT TO CODIFY SECTION 41-59-87, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PRESCRIBE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE OPERATION OF AN AIR AMBULANCE WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The following section shall be codified as Section 41-59-87, Mississippi Code of 1972:

     41-59-87.  (1)  The following standards for the operation of an air ambulance within the boundaries of the State of Mississippi shall be required by the State Board of Health:

          (a)  To operate an air ambulance within the boundaries of the State of Mississippi the air ambulance service must be operated by a hospital that is a Level I or II hospital in the State Trauma Network.

          (b)  An air ambulance must transport patients picked up within the boundaries of the State of Mississippi to the appropriate hospital within the State Trauma Network.

          (c)  An air ambulance must meet all FAA regulations and State Trauma Network regulations.

     (2)  For a hospital outside of the State of Mississippi to be a part of the State Trauma Network, it shall also be an equal level or higher in their state's trauma system.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2016.
