House Resolution 112

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION HONORING AND CELEBRATING THE LEGACY OF THE JOHNSON, BANKS, CARTER AND FLEMING FAMILIES UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR ANNUAL FAMILY REUNION FROM JULY 1 TO JULY 3, 2016.

WHEREAS, from July 1 through July 3, 2016, between 150 to 200 members of the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming families will gather at the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church Family Life Center for a reunion of immense proportions, which is only fitting for such an auspicious family whose roots are deeply embedded in the rich Mississippi soil; and

WHEREAS, the best of Mississippi's growth and prosperity is truly represented in the unprecedented African-American legacy established by the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming families, who have supported and encouraged each other throughout the years during all of the ups and downs and times of mourning and celebration that life has handed out; and

WHEREAS, while the families have expanded and flourished all over the United States of America, a large number of relatives have fittingly settled in the greater Canton and greater Jackson areas, as the State of Mississippi nurtured the family's initial foundation and sparked the fire for its future progress, igniting an inextinguishable flame of desire for success in the heart of each member, many of whom have triumphantly made their marks on society and achieved impressive feats in the fields of education, business, law, transportation and industry; and

WHEREAS, as they pause the hustle and bustle of their daily lives to reunite with their immediate and extended family members, the annual reunion allows the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming families to create fun and new memories as their commitment and dedication to each other is refreshed and they remember how eternally grateful they are for the steadfast devotion to the betterment of the Magnolia State that their ancestors diligently strived to provide in order to ensure that Mississippi would become a place that the future generations of the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming families would be proud to call home; and

WHEREAS, after the family attends church services on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with the Dr. Reverend Isiac Jackson presiding, they will pray together and then part ways, but not without renewing their ardent vow to uphold their timeless family traditions, maintain a constant flow of communication, love and support and always return to the brilliant red clay of Mississippi that sprouted the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming clan from a young seedling to a vibrant, lush family tree; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the legacies of fine Mississippi families, especially those such as the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming families, whose rich traditions of excellence, compassion and African-American culture have garnered exponential success for each member and brought honor and glory to this great Magnolia State:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize, honor and celebrate the legacy of the Johnson, Banks, Carter and Fleming families upon the occasion of their annual family reunion from July 1 through July 3, 2016, and extend our most sincere wishes for their continued success and strong family ties.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Johnson family, the Banks family, the Carter family, the Fleming family and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
