House Resolution 79

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE OF GRENADA POLICE OFFICER KENNY ENGLE. 

     WHEREAS, on February 20, 2016, Officer Kenny Engle was injured in the line of duty while escorting the motorcade of his friend, Special Agent Lee Tartt, killed in the line of duty, back to his hometown of Grenada, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, a graduate of Grenada High School, Officer Engle has been a reserve officer with the Grenada Police Department since 2002; and

     WHEREAS, Grenada Police Department Reserve Officers are a group of individuals who donate their time and skills to the people of Grenada and support the operations of the sheriff's department, and though unpaid, the professional officers are trained in advanced weapons techniques, defensive driving and first aid; and

     WHEREAS, the honor of escorting a fallen brother in uniform is one no police officer aspires to; however, the call of duty cannot be ignored even in the most difficult moments, and Officer Engle's service to his community and fellow Officer Tartt in this difficult time embodies the principles of a great police officer, by putting the needs of others ahead of his own and protecting others even in times of danger; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding contributions of individuals like that of Officer Engle, who has served the people of Grenada with the highest degree of professionalism and in so doing has brought great pride to the Grenada Police Department and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the exemplary service of Officer Kenny Engle and extend best wishes for a speedy recovery and many years of good health to come.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Officer Kenny Engle, Grenada Sheriff Alton Strider, President of Reserve Officers at the Grenada Police Department Officer Joe Ward and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
