House Resolution 71

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF KEANDRA JAREÉ MCMORRIS AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the grand architect of the universe, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny, has summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Keandra Jareé McMorris, to eternal rest, as she has made life's final transition from earthly travailing to heavenly reward, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, the Community of Greenwood, Mississippi, lost a wonderful friend, student and Christian on December 7, 2015, when the last page of Keandra Jareé McMorris' life turned and her soul rose to the Heavens; and

WHEREAS, Keandra, who was born on August 22, 1999, in The Woodlands, Texas, was the youngest of two beautiful daughters born to Kornella McMorris and Terrell McGee; and

WHEREAS, at the time of her passing, Keandra was an eleventh grader at Amanda Elzy High School where she excelled in her academic endeavors and had a special talent for mathematics; and

WHEREAS, Keandra was a talented young lady and was passionate about what she enjoyed doing, and the activities she enjoyed most were traveling, reading novels and spending time with her family; and

WHEREAS, Keandra was incredibly creative and one of her favorite pasttimes was drawing black and white sketches of family members, friends, animals and nature, and in addition to her artwork, Keandra expressed her creativity as a member of the Virtuous Divine Dance Production Team; and

WHEREAS, Keandra will be remembered for many things, but the aspect of her life that will be remembered the most will be her "love" which was evident in everything that she did; and

WHEREAS, as a young girl, Keandra confessed her life to Christ at the Greenspoint Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, and after her family returned to Greenwood, she remained a faithful attendee of Locust Grove M.B. Church; and

WHEREAS, though she has traversed the river of life to reunite with those who answered God's summons to life eternal and now beckon the arrival to the celestial shores of Heaven's grandeur, including her maternal grandmother, Dorothy R. McMorris, the legacy of Keandra will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of her beloved survivors: parents, Kornella S. McMorris and Terrell C. McGee; sister, Zakeeia McMorris; maternal grandfather, LaSalle McMorris, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Diane McGee Brown; aunts, LaSandra Brown and Meagan Gosa; uncles, LaSalle McMorris, Jr., Timothy T. McMorris, Lavorise McGee and Trevouse McGee; godsister, Jada Sproles; and a host of other relatives, classmates and friends; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the selfless and caring nature of a young lady of the esteemed caliber as that of Keandra, whose gentle spirit will be sorely missed:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Keandra Jareé McMorris, and extend sincere and deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Keandra Jareé McMorris and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
