House Resolution 60

(As Adopted by House)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING NORTH WOOLMARKET ELEMENTARY UPON THEIR ACHIEVEMENT, PLACING FIFTH ON THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI ASSESSMENT ADMINISTERED IN THE SPRING OF 2015.

WHEREAS, "an investment in knowledge pays the best interest"; and

WHEREAS, in the Spring of 2015, students from North Woolmarket Elementary School undertook the formidable task of completing the State of Mississippi's yearly academic assessment, and though the task provided many new challenges for the young and ambitious minds, the students proved they were up to the task, completing the assessment and ranking fifth in the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, 2015 was the first time Mississippi measured its students with this particular assessment, adding to the pressure of the moment, the test included a more rigorous academic challenge, with higher standards than ever before; and

WHEREAS, students also completed the assessment online for the first time ever and were confronted with the challenge of time constraints on their work; and

WHEREAS, while these students have achieved outstanding success, their leaders continue to strive for greater heights, Principal Cristy Buchanan leads both faculty and students forward, striving for more unassailable successes like this one; and

WHEREAS, Assistant Principals Dr. Amy Thibodeaux and Rebecca Bodenhamer, who also serve as leaders at North Woolmarket Elementary School, through their hard work and dedication, prepare their students to leave the school ready for the many challenges ahead, equipped to serve as the leaders of tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize outstanding academic achievements, like that of North Woolmarket Elementary, which has risen to the challenge of leading the State of Mississippi forward, as evidenced by their impressive state assessment scores:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the students, teachers and administrators of North Woolmarket Elementary School upon their achievement, earning the distinction of ranking fifth in the State of Mississippi on their 2015 Spring assessment and extend best wishes in all of their future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to North Woolmarket Elementary and Middle School Principal Christy Buchanan, Harrison County Superintendent Roy Gill and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
