House Resolution 57

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2015-2016 MADISON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH CECIL HINDS UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 6A GIRLS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Madison Central High School Jaguars Girls Soccer Team dynasty continues to amass state championship trophies as they defeated the Brandon High School Bulldogs Girls Soccer Team 1-0 at Arrow Field at Clinton High School in Clinton, Mississippi, on February 6, 2016, to emerge as the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A Girls Soccer State Championship title holders for the third consecutive year and the eighth time in school history; and

WHEREAS, in becoming the 2015-2016 MHSAA Class 6A Girls Soccer State Champions, the No. 1 statewide ranked Lady Jaguars, who make it their goal every year to win the state championship, did whatever it took to succeed at the championship level, including investing countless measures of hard work above and beyond the efforts of other teams, and finished their season with an extremely impressive record of 22 wins, no losses, one tie and the second ranked girls soccer team nationally by MaxPreps; and

WHEREAS, the championship victory would not have been possible without the robust, energetic and driven Jaguars defense, whom not only blocked all but four attempts to penetrate the goal throughout the entire season of play, but also refused to allow a single soccer ball to cross into the sacred territory that is the Jaguar goal during their superb playoff series, destroying Southaven in the first round 3-0, knocking out Tupelo 1-0 in the second round, and out-smarting and out-playing Northwest Rankin to win 2-0 in the North State Championship Title match; and

WHEREAS, the excellent Jaguars' performance continued throughout the championship match to permanently muzzle the Bulldogs, as Madison Central's stellar goal keeper, Anna Blocker, blocked, as her name suggests she would, a free kick by tipping it up and over the bar, preventing a Bulldog score, and once the end of regulation time elapsed, freshman Cady Lloyd scored the game-winning goal during ten minutes of extra time on a long, precisely placed throw from senior Madison Deslatte; and

WHEREAS, striving to win with unparalleled motivation and ardent determination, the Lady Jaguars played their best game of the season during the championship match, as their mental stamina and athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they exited the locker room until the final buzzer signaled victory and they raised their well-deserved championship trophy under the stadium's twinkling lights as nightfall engulfed Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the 2015-2016 Lady Jaguars Team statistics were impressive, but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant atmosphere and year round hard work by the following talented and distinguished players:  Captains, senior Tay Cavett, senior Scarlett Hodges and junior Kate Russell Snopek; seniors, Anna Blocker, Allie Grace Borst, Madison Deslatte, Emily LeDoux, Alexia Parker and Caroline Runion; juniors, Sarah Chastain, Kim Hardy, Caitlyn Klauser, Mary Eliza McCarley, Maggie Overby, Rachel Staehling and Camille Summerlin; sophomores, Carley Ahlrich, Garland Carmichael, Lucy Cavett, Holland Meyers, Mary Carolyn Nichols, Ashton Reeves, Isabella Wade, Mary Grace Winston and Abby Wright; and freshmen, Jami Ahlrich, Mary Michael Evans, Kailyn Gardner, Sydney Hodges, Reagan Johnson, Cady Lloyd, Maggie McKinnis, Sara Martin Meyers, Cameron Miller, Elle Muirhead, Cara Dale Palmer, Caroline Parker, Sloan Powell and Kaci Wilcox; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Cecil Hinds, who has broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Assistant Coach Ashley Davis and Volunteer Coach Leonard Swilley helped the players reach their fullest potential on and off the field and played a huge role in the success of the Madison Central High School Girls Soccer Team; and

WHEREAS, in their tireless dedication, the Lady Jaguars have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches, bringing honor to Madison Central High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi student-athletes, especially those such as the Madison Central High School Girls Soccer Team, whose excellence on the field and in the classroom bring honor to their school, their community and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2015-2016 Madison Central High School Girls Soccer Team and Head Coach Cecil Hinds upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A Girls Soccer State Championship and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Cecil Hinds, Madison Central High School Principal Austin Brown, Madison Central High School Assistant Principal Jay Harrison, the Madison County School Board and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
