House Resolution 51

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE OF MRS. HALLIE CHRISTINE VALENTINE DAVIS, AND EXTENDING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

WHEREAS, in life, love fills the hours, with time spent in the company of family and friends, laughter and joy is inexhaustible, in a life filled with love, pain and despair have no place, they exist for mere seconds and death is only a moment, but love lasts for an eternity; and

WHEREAS, born on April 23, 1948, in Sardis, Mississippi, to her loving parents Mr. Marcus Valentine and Mrs. Perthola Lesure Valentine, Mrs. Hallie Christine Valentine Davis brought joy to the hearts of many throughout her life, and lived her life rich with love and affection for her many friends and family members; and

WHEREAS, while a student at Tate County High School, Mrs. Davis pursued many passions, representing her school as a member of the debate team, competing on the radio show "Quizen," in addition to serving as a member of the Four Hundred Club and a member of the cheerleading squad; and

WHEREAS, in addition to success in the classroom, the debate hall, and the cheerleading arena, Mrs. Davis also found the true love of her life at Tate County High School, in Mr. William Earl Davis, who pierced her heart with affection and chivalry, and with whom she joined in the sacred bond of matrimony on January 25, 1966, a loving union, that welcomed two children into the world, Mr. William Anthony Davis and Ms. Crystalyn Shaun Davis, who continues to shine the light of love inherited from their parents; and

WHEREAS, a faithful member of the Thyatira Church of Christ for many years, Mrs. Davis, best known as Ms. Christine, served as Sunday School teacher, a ladies Bible Class teacher and as a mentor to young ladies for more than 30 years, until she moved her membership to West Oak Grove Church of Christ in 2006 where she remained a faithful member until she left this mortal world to join with Christ in the promise of everlasting salvation; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Davis worked for some time at the William Carter Company in Senatobia, Mississippi, and later she and her husband opened Davis Cafe, where she served as head cook, before making the empowering decision in 1984 to return to school and further her education, earning a degree in cosmetology and graduating with the distinction of most outstanding student; and

WHEREAS, working from her chair at Davis Barber and Beauty Salon, she taught many life lessons based on her many years of experience in the world, enriching the lives of everyone in her presence; and

WHEREAS, though Ms. Christine has now transcended this physical world, her memory stirs warmth in the hearts of those who survived her, including: her loving husband, Mr. William Earl Davis; son, Mr. William Anthony Davis; daughter, Mrs. Crystalyn Todd; grandchildren, Genita Brown, Undreada Dean, Maya Todd, Derrium Todd, Antonio C. Davis and Adrian O. Davis; seven sisters; six great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the lives of outstanding individuals such as Mrs. Hallie Christine Davis, whose life brought incalculable joy to those around her and additionally her many contributions to this world have made her community and the State of Mississippi a happier, brighter place to live:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Hallie Christine Valentine Davis, and extend deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Hallie Christine Valentine Davis and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
