A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL MAVERICKS BOYS' GOLF TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2014 AND 2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS, THE GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL MAVERICKS GIRLS' GOLF TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS IIA STATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE TEAMS' HEAD COACH GREGG PERRY.
WHEREAS, the Germantown High School Boys' Golf Team reigned victorious at the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Golf Championship, its second championship in two years, and the Germantown High School Girls' Golf Team towered above their opponents to win the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class IIA State Golf Championship; and
WHEREAS, channeling their inner Arnold Palmer, the 2014 and 2015 Boys' Golf Teams, who worked extremely hard throughout their seasons of play to master precise aiming, accurate and long drives, and the perfect putt that glides smoothly into the hole, consist of the following talented members: from the 2014 team, Ross Bell, Hayden Scoville, Matthew Scoville, Tab McGee, Aubrey Breedlove, Matthew Perry, Price Templeton and Keaton Belk, and from the 2015 team, Keaton Belk, Matthew Perry, Garrett Ponder, Zachary Smith, Matthew Scoville, Cole Baggett, Graham Scoville, Joseph Gunter and Zach Maclennan; and
WHEREAS, striving throughout their season of play to score as many eagles as possible, play beautiful punch shots into the green and superbly hone the timing of their shots to ensure victory, the 2015 Girls' Golf Team, who defeated all of the Shooter McGavins they faced on perfectly manicured, vibrantly green courses, is comprised of the following skillful members: Bari Bedells, Breana Pigott, Presley Baggett, Maddie Davis and Emily Howard; and
WHEREAS, the Mavericks Boys' and Girls' Golf Teams have been splendidly coached and inspired by Head Coach Gregg Perry, who was honored with the elite titles of All-District Coach of the Year for Boys and Girls Golf, Golf Coach of the Year by the Clarion Ledger in the Best of Mississippi Preps Invite and Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Coaches Association and the National Federation of High School Coaches; and
WHEREAS, Roiann Sisk, the assistant coach for the Germantown Boys' and Girls' Golf Teams, has also helped the players reach their fullest potential on and off the field and played a vital and instructional role in each team's success; and
WHEREAS, the championship triumphs would not have been possible without the leadership of 2014 Germantown High School Principal Ted Poore, 2015 Germantown High School Principal Wesley Quick and Germantown High School Athletic Director Tim Shramek, who ensured that the players studied and excelled academically as well as athletically; and
WHEREAS, Coach Perry and Coach Sisk have broadened the Mavericks' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution and continued to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in their ability to produce high caliber golfers and by the teams' championship winning seasons; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Germantown High School Mavericks Boys' and Girls' Golf Teams, whose championship victories and unparalleled sportsmanship have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Germantown High School Mavericks Boys' Golf Team for winning the 2014 and 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Golf Championships, the Germantown High School Mavericks Girls' Golf Team for winning the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class IIA State Golf Championship and the teams' Head Coach Gregg Perry, and extend best wishes to both teams and the coach for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Gregg Perry, Principals Ted Poore and Wesley Quick, Athletic Director Tim Shramek and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
