House Resolution 27

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND EXCEPTIONAL PUBLIC SERVICE OF MR. NICHOLAS B. PHILLIPS UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS THE TISHOMINGO COUNTY PROSECUTING ATTORNEY.

     WHEREAS, for the past 22 years, Mr. Nicholas B. Phillips has served as the Tishomingo County Prosecuting Attorney, becoming more than a name, but a face and disposition that is synonymous with professionalism and equitable treatment, and he will be remembered for his public service long past his retirement; and

     WHEREAS, the job of a county prosecutor is not an easy one or one to take lightly, but, Mr. Phillips fulfilled the duties of his station with great poise and integrity; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to his role as a county prosecutor, Mr. Phillips has previously worked as a professor, U.S. Attorney, private attorney and a minister, a true testament to his diverse intellectual interests and capabilities; and

     WHEREAS, although Mr. Phillips has retired from his position as county prosecutor of Tishomingo County, he continues to practice law as a private attorney at his firm, Phillips and Phillips, in Iuka, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, when he is not doing research for a case or arguing before a judge, Mr. Phillips spends his time working towards a Doctorate of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary and serving as a pastor at New Hope Presbyterian Church; and

     WHEREAS, with the retirement from his position as county prosecutor, Mr. Phillips hopes to enjoy spending more time with his loving and caring wife, Dr. Adrienne Cole Phillips, and his daughter, Cason Elise Phillips; and

     WHEREAS, even though Mr. Phillips has officially retired from public service, he will continue to serve his community, as he has always done, by helping in any capacity needed, and will continue to ensure that his community is a beacon of light in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the selfless characteristics of such a noble individual as Mr. Nicholas B. Phillips, whose life's work helped to improve the lives of everybody in his community by ensuring justice was fairly served to all who were brought before the court in Tishomingo County:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the dedicated service and distinguished career of Mr. Nicholas B. Phillips as the Tishomingo County Prosecuting Attorney and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement, and extend our best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Nicholas B. Phillips and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
