House Concurrent Resolution 128

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MRS. MIRANDA BEARD UPON BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION.

     WHEREAS, on Friday, April 8, 2016, Mrs. Miranda Beard was elected President of the National School Boards Association, where her considerable skill and range of talents will serve to further the NSBA's efforts to ensure equity and excellence in public education; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beard is a graduate of the University of Mississippi, where she earned her degree in broadcast journalism before serving as a television journalist and radio personality for more than 29 years; and

     WHEREAS, her excellent experience in leadership roles includes:  serving as a past president of the Mississippi School Boards Association from 2011-2012, past president of the Mississippi Associated Press Broadcasters Association, former board member of the Greater Mississippi Girl Scouts, Commissioner of the Mississippi Employment Security Commission and she also completed Leadership Jones County and Leadership Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Beard currently serves as President of the Laurel School District Board of Trustees, and also serves on the advisory board for the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter, the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Jones County and the University of Southern Mississippi School of Mass Communication and Journalism; and

     WHEREAS, in her role as President of the NSBA, Mrs. Beard will work with state associations to serve nearly 15,000 school districts and 90,000 school board members, through uncompromising hard work and dedication to education's immeasurable value, Mrs. Beard and the NSBA will work to provide the very best in public education for 50-million children across the United States; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding contributions to education like that of Mrs. Miranda Beard, whose unparalleled commitment to bettering public education across the United States has brought great pride and honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Miranda Beard upon being elected President of the National School Boards Association and extend best wishes for continued success as she embarks on this endeavor of national leadership.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Miranda Beard and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
