House Concurrent Resolution 124

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. TRENT HARMON UPON BEING NAMED THE 2016 AMERICAN IDOL.

     WHEREAS, on April 7, 2016, Mr. Trent Harmon, of Amory, Mississippi, earned the distinction of being named the 2016 American Idol, out performing thousands of entrants and adding his name to the timeless annals of musical history and staking his claim as the final American Idol of the show's 15-season reign as America's most acclaimed singing talent; and

     WHEREAS, what began as a young man's dream, became reality, with red, white and blue confetti falling to the stage of Hollywood's Dolby Theatre and Trent Harmon's hit single "Falling" playing, as he accepted the crown of "2016 American Idol"; and

     WHEREAS, this accomplishment follows many years of exceptional performances through which Mr. Harmon has consistently left audiences enthralled and amazed with his considerable vocal talent and on stage theatrics; and 

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harmon who has enjoyed singing since the age of two, has shared his talent on television and on stage, and is renown for playing Joseph in the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, which earned him a place at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee, while only a freshman in high school; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Harmon began his education in Amory City Schools, before completing his educational matriculation by earning a bachelor's degree in education and history from the University of Arkansas; and

     WHEREAS, prior to this unparalleled success on American Idol, Mr. Harmon performed in "Beauty and the Beast," "Forever Plaid" and "Pirates of Pinzance" on stage, and on television he also performed on "The Voice"; and

     WHEREAS, in a star-studded series finale that showcased the show's 15-year legacy, Idol alums from Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard and Scotty McCreery, to season 11 top 5 finisher Skylar Laine, from Brandon, Mississippi, all made spectacular performance appearances, only to be overshadowed by the highly anticipated announcement of America's newest and final Idol with the tapping of Mr. Trent Harmon as the voters' choice as winner; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to the national acclaim that accompanies his new moniker, Mr. Harmon will roll into the lanes of superstardom in a new Ford Fusion all the way to the recording studios that accompanies his contract with a major recording label; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to share in the enthusiasm of citizens of this state as we congratulate Trent Harmon on being named the 2016 American Idol winner and for achieving outstanding accolades and successes, both on the local and national stage:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Trent Harmon upon capturing the moniker of 2016 American Idol, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Trent Harmon and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
