A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED LAW ENFORCEMENT CAREER OF SPECIAL AGENT LEE TARTT UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, "greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends"; and

     WHEREAS, on February 20, 2016, Special Agent Lee Tartt was called from our mortal world to join in the eternal promise of salvation in our Lord, though his watch has concluded, his legacy as an officer, a son, a friend and husband shines through the unremitting light of love left in the hearts of those blessed to know him; and

     WHEREAS, called from this world while serving the State of Mississippi, Special Agent Tartt made the ultimate sacrifice, for fellow officers and fellow Mississippians alike, his last full measure of devotion given so that others may live in inexhaustible freedom and tranquility; and

     WHEREAS, Special Agent Tartt's venerable career began in 1994 with the Grenada Police Department in Grenada, Mississippi; in 2000, Special Agent Tartt joined the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, where he continued his exceptional career and earned many accolades, including being named Agent of the Year in 2011 and earning the H. Lane Caldwell Award for Valor in 2012; and

     WHEREAS, in a career spanning 22 years of exceptional service, Special Agent Tartt earned the unwavering respect of fellow officers and citizens alike, committed to making Mississippi a safer place for everyone to live; and

     WHEREAS, though Special Agent Tartt has transcended our physical world, his memory warms the hearts of those who survive him, including his loving wife, Deborah Harbin Tartt, two children, a host of family members and friends, and his fellow uniformed brothers and sisters in law enforcement, who now continue his watch; and 

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize the heroic actions of this great Mississippian, as evidenced by the life and merits of Special Agent Lee Tartt, whose gift to this state was the ultimate sacrifice of life in order that others may have the opportunity to live safely and pursue happiness free from impediment; through his noble and selfless service Special Agent Tartt has brought great honor to his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the honorable service and mourn the loss of Special Agent Lee Tartt, and extend thoughts and prayers to his family in honor of their sacrifice and express our sorrow upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Special Agent Lee Tartt and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
