A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ROBERT WOODARD II UPON REPRESENTING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN THE INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL FEDERATION AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP AND WINNING THE GOLD MEDAL.

     WHEREAS, Robert Woodard II, the Columbus High School Falcons six foot-six, 220 pound versatile powerhouse sophomore point guard and forward, distinguished himself on the basketball court as one of 12 players under the age of 16 selected to represent the United States in the International Basketball Federation Americas Championship; and

     WHEREAS, the United States Team finished the tournament with five wins and no losses, earning the gold medal with a come from behind win over Team Canada, winning 77-60, in which Robert Woodard scored two points and contributed one rebound; and

     WHEREAS, Robert Woodard's best game in the tournament came against the Dominican Republic, where he scored 11 points and contributed eight rebounds in the team's winning effort; and

     WHEREAS, over the course of the five game tournament Robert averaged 5.6 points per game and just under four rebounds per game, while shooting 45% from the field; and

     WHEREAS, Robert Woodard joins Malik Newman as fellow Mississippi natives to win gold medals playing for the United States Basketball Team in the past three years; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to earning international acclaim, at home in Columbus, Mississippi, Woodard's high school team, the Columbus High School Falcons Basketball Team earned the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship on March 12, 2016; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding achievements such as that of Robert Woodard, who has represented himself and the State of Mississippi on the international stage with honor and distinction:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Robert Woodard II upon representing the United States of America in the International Basketball Federation Americas Championship, for winning the championship and earning a gold medal for his country, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of his future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Robert Woodard II and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
