A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. TYRONE BULLY AND BULLY'S RESTAURANT UPON RECEIVING A 2016 JAMES BEARD AMERICA'S CLASSICS AWARD.
WHEREAS, on February 23, 2016, the James Beard Foundation announced that Bully's Restaurant, located in the heart of the capitol city on Livingston Road, in Jackson, Mississippi, earned its America's Classics Award; and
WHEREAS, America's Classics Awards are presented to the restaurants that possess timeless appeal and are cherished for quality food that reflects the character of their respective communities; and
WHEREAS, in order to qualify for the America's Classics Award, restaurants must have been in existence for at least ten years and be locally owned; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Tyrone Bully and his father built Bully's Restaurant by hand, beginning the Bully's legacy as a snack shop that served nearby factory workers who flocked to Bully's for their cold cut sandwiches; and
WHEREAS, today Mr. Tyrone Bully arrives at six in the morning and does not leave until the doors are locked at night, serving a wide range of customers spanning all reaches of society, Bully's regulars return over and over for American classics like oxtails, neck bones, macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, and sweet potatoes; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding achievements and accomplishments like Bully's Restaurant, whose owners have strived to create an institution that reflects the values and culture of traditional Mississippi cuisine and in so doing they have achieved national acclaim and brought great pride and honor to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Tyrone Bully and Bully's Restaurant upon receiving the James Beard America's Classics Award, and extend most sincere and best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Tyrone Bully and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
