House Concurrent Resolution 70

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NOXUBEE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Noxubee County High School Tigers Football Team clinched back-to-back Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championships in a blowout 44-23 win over the South State Champion St. Stanislaus Rock-a-chaws, in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, even though the Tigers' fourth championship victory was all but assured, as the team was winning 25-0 in the second quarter, the team never stopped fighting and refused to quit playing until the final whistle blew; and

WHEREAS, one of the keys to the Tiger's dominance was their outstanding defensive line, who made St. Stanislaus one-dimensional, which allowed the line to pressure the quarterback, and before the night was over, the Tigers accounted for seven sacks for negative 58 yards; and

WHEREAS, in addition to their stellar defensive line, the Tigers' offense was also firing on all cylinders and kept the St. Stanislaus defense on their heels all night; and

WHEREAS, although there were several standout performances by Tigers' players, this championship win was a result of teamwork and unselfish play, with every teammate understanding his role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Tyrone Shorter, who has broadened the Tigers' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Shorter continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and by the team's incredibly successful season; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the outstanding student athletes of this state, such as the Tigers, whose hard work, determination and unyielding resolve bring honor to their parents, school and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Noxubee County High School Football Team for winning the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 4A State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Noxubee County High School Principal, Head Coach Tyrone Shorter and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
