House Concurrent Resolution 60

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STARKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL YELLOWJACKETS FOOTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 6A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Starkville High School Yellowjackets Football Team clinched a dominant 27-7 victory in a hard fought battle against Petal, capturing the team's sixth state championship with arguably the most talented squad in program history; and

WHEREAS, even after taking a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, the Yellowjackets kept playing hard and never let the fact they were ahead cause them to ease up; and

WHEREAS, one of the keys to the Yellowjackets' win was their dominant defense, proving that defenses really do win championships, especially when you only have to rush three and can drop eight into coverage because you have one of the best defensive lines in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, the Yellowjackets' victory could not have been ensured without stellar performances by the offense, including extraordinarily talented receivers and other skill position players; and

WHEREAS, although there were several standout performances by Yellowjackets' players, this championship win was a result of teamwork and unselfish play, with every teammate understanding his role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the Yellowjackets have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Ricky Woods, who has broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Woods continues to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member, as evidenced in his ability to produce high caliber players and by the team's incredibly successful season; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the outstanding student athletes of this state, such as the Yellowjackets, whose hard work, determination and unyielding resolve bring honor to their parents, school and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Starkville High School Yellowjackets Football Team for winning the 2015 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 6A State Championship and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Starkville High School, Head Coach Ricky Woods and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
