Senate Concurrent Resolution 662

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SHAW HIGH SCHOOL "HAWKS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH ANTHONY DAVIS FOR CAPTURING BACK-TO-BACK 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WHEREAS, Malik Walker scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds and was named the C Spire Player of the Game. Jermarquis Stimage added 12 points as Shaw High School rolled to a 56-46 victory against Coffeeville High School during the Class 1A MHSAA Boys Basketball Title Game on March 13, 2015, at the Mississippi Coliseum; and

WHEREAS, it is the fourth championship in program history for the Hawks, whose previous title came in 2014; and

WHEREAS, the Hawks 24-9 had no losses in their division. Shaw Head Basketball Coach Anthony Davis hoisted the Mississippi Class 1A Basketball Championship Trophy after the Hawks defeated Coffeeville High School. This was the second championship win in Coach Davis' 16 years at Shaw High School; and

WHEREAS, the Hawks were making their third appearance at the Coliseum under Coach Davis, who believed the team could win another Championship this season. It resulted in a dominating run in which the Hawks won their last seven games of the season to capture the Gold Ball. "I want to congratulate Coach Davis and the team on a great season. Coach Davis has given Shaw High School a number of great years. I'm thrilled for the team and for the Coach," said Lamar Franks, Mayor of Shaw; and

WHEREAS, the Shaw High School Boys Basketball Team Championship Roster is: Tyquan Rule, Shontauris Wright, Anthony Jackson, Anthony Davis, Jr., Jermarquis Stimage, Quandarius Riley, William Scott, Jr., Elijah Jackson, Damarcus Gilliam, Deshawn Davis, Malik Walker, Dexter Span, Christopher Freeman, Willie Pegues, Charles Stimage, Mario Haywood-Grisby, Christopher Davis and George Carson; Managers: Jeneldrick Randle, Japhabian White, Orlando Truss, Jelanli Jackson and Melvindrick Johnson, Jr.; Statisticians Danterrius Ware and Shonta Short; Head Coach Anthony Davis; Assistant Coaches Larry Haywood, Sr., and Dekoshia Dorsey; Athletic Director Larry Walker; Superintendant Charles K. Barron; and Principal Daphne Young; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a dream season by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Shaw High School "Hawks" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Anthony Davis for capturing their second Class 1A State Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches and parents for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Davis for the team, Shaw High School Principal Daphne Young, forwarded to the Shaw School District Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
