A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MCCOMB HIGH SCHOOL "TIGERS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH HILTON HARRELL FOR CAPTURING BACK-TO-BACK 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
WHEREAS, for McComb, this is a sign of bigger things to come. On March 14, 2015, the two top-ranked boys programs in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 4A faced-off for a State Championship. For a second straight year, the Tigers took home a title after defeating Quitman 52-40 at the Mississippi Coliseum; and
WHEREAS, it is the third Championship in program history for the Tigers, whose first title came in 1962 (52 years). McComb reclassified from 5A to 4A this season; and
WHEREAS, McComb (31-1) was relentless from the get-go, eager to showcase its ability to defend and force Quitman outside its comfort zone. McComb held Quitman to three points in the first quarter. By halftime, Quitman's offense scored eight points in the second quarter as the Tigers still led 21-12; and
WHEREAS, Coach Harrell prides his team on being "well-conditioned to go 94 feet for 32 minutes." It was evident in how the Tigers capitalized on the offensive and defensive glasses and executed baskets in transition; and
WHEREAS, McComb Head Basketball Coach Hilton Harrell hoisted the Mississippi Class 4A Basketball Championship Trophy after the Tigers defeated the Quitman Panthers. This marked the third year in a row the Tigers competed in the State Tournament, and it was the second Championship win in Coach Harrell's 21 years at McComb High School; and
WHEREAS, the McComb High School Boys Basketball Team Championship Roster is: Tredarius Lee, Antonio Cowart, Zarkeichious Martin, Michael Martin, Tyre Robinson, Emanuel Thompson, Carlos Porter, Jeremiah Gardner, James Williams, Zantavius Green, Quadarius Green, Tredarius Pittman and Kadarron Mason; and Coach Hilton Harrell; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize a dream season by a group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the McComb High School "Tigers" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Hilton Harrell for capturing back-to-back first Class 4A State Championships, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches and parents for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Harrell for the team, McComb Principal Robert Lamkin, forwarded to the McComb School District Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
