A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING HOPE ROBERTS, POPLARVILLE HIGH SCHOOL MARKETING INSTRUCTOR, UPON HER RECEIPT OF THE PRESTIGIOUS 2015 DECA ADVISOR OF THE YEAR AND MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF MARKETING EDUCATORS AWARDS.

     WHEREAS, we join the marketing education community in honoring Hope Roberts, Poplarville High School Marketing Instructor and DECA Advisor, who recently received District V Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Advisor of the Year and District V Mississippi Association of Marketing Educators (MAME) Awards.  These awards were announced on February 20, 2015, at the Annual Mississippi DECA Awards Banquet in Jackson, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.  DECA is a student-driven organization that values competence, innovation, integrity and teamwork.  It prepares students for careers by integrating skills learned in the classroom into real-world experiences.  DECA programs assist in developing academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.  Its students major in a variety of academic programs with a strong focus on business-related fields.  DECA conferences and other activities give students unique access to internships, scholarships, competition, and professional networking; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Marketing Educator of the Year Award, established in 1986, recognizes superior and distinguished achievement in the academic field of marketing.  The nominee must be a regular member in good standing of MEA, and marketing courses must represent the majority of the individual's teaching assignment.  Criteria include:  excellence in teaching marketing topics, marketing research, and marketing education research shall be the criteria used in evaluating each nominee.  Teaching includes, but is not limited to:  classroom performance; advising of both individual students and student groups/organizations;  publications of a pedagogical nature, such as journal articles, textbooks, cases, manuals and software; preparation of graduate students who themselves go on to become excellent teachers; and advancement of the field of marketing education; and

     WHEREAS, with a 70-year history, DECA has impacted the lives of more than ten million students, educators, school administrators and business professionals since it was founded in 1946.  DECA recognizes its members through a variety of recognition programs for distinguished achievement as academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this Mississippi High School Instructor with a record of achievement and legacy of leadership and dedication to all in Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate Hope Roberts, Poplarville High School Marketing Instructor, upon her receipt of the prestigious 2015 DECA Advisor of the Year and Mississippi Association of Marketing Educators Awards, and extend our best wishes to Hope and her family on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Hope Roberts, forwarded to the Principal of Poplarville High School and the Poplarville School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
