Senate Concurrent Resolution 604

(As Adopted by Senate and House)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE "WILDCATS" BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS 7TH MACJC STATE CHAMPIONSHIP UNDER HEAD COACH RICHARD MATHIS AND FOR THEIR EXCELLENT 2014-2015 SEASON.

WHEREAS, the 24th-ranked Pearl River Community College (PRCC) Wildcats claimed its 7th MACJC Basketball Championship in the 23-year reign of Head Coach Richard Mathis on February 21, 2015, bombarding the Holmes Bulldogs 65-54 at Graydon L. Mullen Coliseum on the Copiah-Lincoln Community College campus; and

WHEREAS, the title marked the 9th in Juco coaching Mathis' career, as the veteran mentor also won a Men's Championship at Northeast Mississippi in 1982 and a Women's Title at his alma mater East Mississippi in 1978; and

WHEREAS, PRCC improved to 23-3 overall and is the top seed in the Region 23 Tournament at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus in Clinton.  The contest was an ultra-heated battle in the first half that ended in a 27-27 stalemate at the intermission.  From that point the score was tied three times and saw two lead exchanges before a foul shot made it 27-27 at the break.  Malik Clements out of Madison West (Wisconsin) High made back-to-back treys to put the Wildcats up for good at 37-34.  Clements' baskets kicked off a dominating 31-20 River-scoring run the rest of the way to ice the 11-point Championship victory; and

WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 PRCC Wildcats Basketball Team Roster is:  William Brown, Cortez Mitchell, Teddy Scott, Timmy Shaw, Kyarius Body, Jamond Franklin, Laderrick Scott, John Cornish, Darrlyn Willis, Malik Clements, Dontellius Ross, Jordan Green, Jeffery Spence and Leon Hampton; and Head Coach Richard Mathis; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this community college team that has brought honor to its campus and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Community College "Wildcats" Basketball Team for its 7th MACJC State Championship under Head Coach Richard Mathis and for their excellent 2014-2015 season, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to PRCC Coach Richard Mathis for the team, forwarded to the PRCC Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
