A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SOUTHEAST LAUDERDALE HIGH SCHOOL "TIGERS" BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH MIKE THOMAS FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST SOCCER STATE TITLE IN SCHOOL HISTORY IN A MEMORABLE OVERTIME MATCH.

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Soccer Championship game on February 7, 2015, at Clinton produced a newcomer who crashed the party in dramatic fashion by winning a shootout as underdogs.  The Southeast Lauderdale "Tigers" Boys Soccer Team won the MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A Championship by defeating Sacred Heart, a two-time champion.  Southeast Lauderdale won its last 16 games to finish 21-1-1; and

     WHEREAS, friends, family, teachers and fans alike stormed the field at the sound of the final whistle.  Mississippi High School Athletics Association officials could be heard on the field of Clinton High School delivering a message:  "Please stay off the field!"  NOT A CHANCE; and

     WHEREAS, the Tigers won the State Title game 4-2 on penalty kicks in a vigorous, nail-biting classic that will be etched into the memories of Tiger fans for years to come.  The two squads competed to a scoreless tie through regulation, two 10-minute overtimes and two 5-minute sudden-death periods before culminating in Sacred Heart's failed kick on the sixth penalty attempt, sending the Southeast Lauderdale faithful into euphoria.  Additionally, the win gave Southeast Lauderdale High School its first soccer State Title in school history; and

     WHEREAS, "We just had a good all-around team with a good mixture of offense and defense," Tigers Coach Mike Thomas said.  The Tigers' best previous result was in 2014 when they lost a shootout in the semifinals; and

     WHEREAS, the 2015 Southeast Lauderdale High School Boys Soccer Team Roster is:  Cody Gray, Ethan Brown, Logan Taylor, Jake Hoffer, Jakobe Wilson, Dylan Shirley, Alejandro Perez, Andres Alonso, Chris Simpson, Oliver Navas, Trent Hudson, Andrew Bernard, Chase Hughes, Jesus Hidalgo, Caleb McGrew, Diego Alford, Jacen Little, Shawn Shelton, Gage Leifried, Blake Burkhalter, Chase Parker, Wyatt Simmons, Head Coach Mike Thomas and Assistant Coach Josh Johnson; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes which has brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Southeast Lauderdale High School "Tigers" Boys Soccer Team and Coach Mike Thomas for winning their first Soccer State Title in school history in a memorable overtime match, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Mike Thomas and Principal Julius Moore, forwarded to the Lauderdale County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
