A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS OF MDOT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN RICKY MURRAH OF LUCEDALE, MISSISSIPPI, WHO LOST HIS LIFE IN THE LINE OF DUTY, AND EXPRESSING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the State of Mississippi lost a member of the Mississippi Department of Transportation family on Thursday, July 10, 2014. A four-man maintenance crew from the George County Facility pulled into a median crossover to remove roadway debris when the accident occurred. Two maintenance technicians were involved in the accident. Ricky Murrah of Lucedale lost his life, and Eric Hill suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. The maintenance crew had finished removing debris from Highway 98 when they were struck by a passenger vehicle; and
WHEREAS, words are not enough to express the magnitude of this loss felt by family, friends and coworkers; and
WHEREAS, Ricky Murrah was 55 years old and joined the MDOT team in 2011; and
WHEREAS, he was a resident of Lucedale and is survived by his parents, James and Leona Murrah; five sisters: Charlene Murrah, Belinda Murrah Dixon, Tammy Murrah Poole, Megan Murrah Tanner and Geraldine Murrah; three children: Johnathon Murrah, Julia Murrah Husley and Jerrica Murrah Graham; and six grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, we can never repay our debt to these Mississippi public servants whose dangerous work ensures the safety of citizens who travel the highways of our state. We must do what we can, with all that we have, to live our lives in a way that pays tribute to their memory. We should not pause and remember to thank road crew technicians only in the wake of tragedy, we should do it every day:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss of MDOT Maintenance Technician Ricky Murrah of Lucedale, Mississippi, who lost his life in the line of duty, and express the sympathy of the Legislature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Ricky Murrah, forwarded to the Mississippi Transportation Commission, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
