A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMENDING THE DEDICATED PUBLIC SERVICE OF FORMER STATE SENATOR JOHN ED LEE OF MORTON, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXTENDING THE SYMPATHY OF THE LEGISLATURE.
WHEREAS, the State Legislature and the State of Mississippi have lost one of its brightest citizens with the loss of former State Senator John Edwin (John Ed) Lee who passed away on September 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, a Scott County native, John Ed was a graduate of Morton High School and Mississippi State University. John retired as a General Motors Franchise new car dealer in Forest, Mississippi. He was active in the Mississippi Automobile Dealers Association, serving in numerous offices including President; and
WHEREAS, John proudly served as a Mississippi State Senator from 1976-1984 for Scott and Newton Counties where he was a member of a number of legislative committees including Finance, Highways and Transportation, Agriculture, Game and Fish, Oil and Gas, Investigate State Offices, and Enrolled Bills. He previously served on the Board of Trustees of East Central Community College and on the Board of Directors of Mid-Mississippi Development District; and
WHEREAS, John Ed will always be remembered as a man of character and kindness. Former colleagues in the Mississippi State Senate, members of his church, and his profession have always spoken of him as an honorable man who was respected by all. He was a statesman, politician, business owner and church leader; and
WHEREAS, John Edwin Lee, age 86, was the oldest son of the late Jack E. and Talullah (Toolie) Latham Lee. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Fay Lee; son, Jack (Jane) Lee II of Brandon; daughter, Janis Tischner of Kennesaw, Georgia; two grandchildren, Stacey Lee (Brett) Boyett and Barrett of North Hollywood, California, and John E. Lee II of Omaha, Nebraska; and also family members: Franklin (Joy) Power, Jr., Brady and Bryce; Tami P. (William) Carollo, Krystle C. (Nick) Hinton and Helen; and Whitney C. (Cory) Messer, Tatum, Cooper and Kendal. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his first wife, Bobbie Jean Vaughn Lee; grandson, Abbott Tischner; and his only sibling, brother, J.A. (Buddy) Lee; and
WHEREAS, with the loss of Senator Lee, the State of Mississippi has lost one of its most capable, devoted and estimable citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commend the dedicated public service of former State Senator John Edwin (John Ed) Lee of Morton, Mississippi, and extend the sympathy of the Legislature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Senator Lee and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
