AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF WAYNE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH CIVIL CASE FILED IN, AND FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CONVICTION OBTAINED IN ITS JUSTICE COURT TO BE USED TO FUND THE CONSTRUCTION, OPERATION, FURNISHING, TECHNOLOGY, MAINTENANCE AND RELATED NEEDS OF A NEW COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING TO BE KNOWN AS THE "WAYNE COUNTY JUSTICE COMPLEX"; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Wayne County, Mississippi, in its discretion, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, may levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, in the justice courts of the county as follows:

          (a)  An amount not to exceed Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) per case for each civil case filed;

          (b)  An amount not to exceed Fifty Dollars ($50.00) for each conviction under the Implied Consent Law and/or for each nonadjudication under the Implied Consent Law; and

          (c)  An amount not to exceed Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) for each misdemeanor conviction other than a violation of the Implied Consent Law and/or each nonadjudication of such misdemeanors.

     (2)  The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be expended by the Board of Supervisors of Wayne County to fund the construction, operation, furnishing, technology, maintenance and related needs of a new county office building to be known as the "Wayne County Justice Complex."

     (3)  The Wayne County Justice Complex shall house and contain the Wayne County Justice Court and any other offices, agencies or services as determined by the Board of Supervisors of Wayne County.

     (4)  This section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2025.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
