House Resolution 138

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND COMMEMORATING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. LAVERNE W. WILLIAMS.

     WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such on March 7, 2015, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mrs. Laverne W. Williams, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to her family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, born on August 14, 1957, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Ulysses S. Johnson, Jr., and the late Pearline Johnson, Mrs. Williams graduated from Warren Central High School and Hinds Community College, and she became a financial counselor at River Regional Medical Center and Vicksburg Clinic and owned and operated Sunshine Food Specialty; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams accepted Christ and was baptized at Travis Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, and she demonstrated her love for the Lord and dedication to her church through her service as Trustee, Director of the Children's Choir, soloist, usher, secretary, steward and member of the Missionary Society; and

     WHEREAS, as fate would lend itself to building upon the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of her life by the great deity, Mrs. Williams' love and affection pierced the heart of Mr. Douglas Williams, and the duo exchanged the nuptials of holy matrimony; and 

     WHEREAS, the legacy of Mrs. Williams' memory will continue to refresh the hearts and fond memories of her beloved survivors:  husband, Douglas Williams; children, Yakima "Kim" (Bryant) Williams, Joseph "Sam" (Monica) Watson, Derrick Watson and Tabitha Watson; step-children, Renita Lane and Tammy Eakins; 14 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; special cousins, Annette Marks, Vernica Henry and Tina Bunch; special friends, Claudette Reed, Shawn Sims, Serise Rooks and Michael Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends, including the Williams, Valentine, Bunch, Thomas and Johnson families; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was a loyal and devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and the knowledge, love, compassion, generosity and wisdom she imparted will not soon be forgotten by those who loved her, as the delightful tenderness of her soul enhanced their lives daily; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the selflessness of loving and affectionate Mississippians of esteemed caliber such as Mrs. Laverne W. Williams:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and commemorate the life and legacy of Mrs. Laverne W. Williams and extend sincere and deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Laverne W. Williams and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
