A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE JUMPERTOWN HIGH SCHOOL FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA PROGRAM FOR ITS PARTICIPATION IN THE FOOD FOR ALL GRANT PROGRAM.

     WHEREAS, the Jumpertown High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) program is currently in its second year of participating in the FFA Food For All competitive grant program; and

     WHEREAS, the Food For All grant provides funding to local FFA chapters throughout the United States to support year-long service learning projects focused on developing and implementing sustainable hunger programs; and

     WHEREAS, Jumpertown FFA was chosen as a grant recipient because of its demonstrated ability to accomplish whatever goal the FFA's members set for themselves and their impressive record of community service; and

     WHEREAS, students in agriculture classes grew over 1,500 tomato plants to give away to every student along with instructions on how to grow and take care of the plant; and

     WHEREAS, the Jumpertown agriculture classes also built raised beds in order to grow produce that was donated to local food pantries and nursing homes; and

     WHEREAS, in total, the participants of the Food For All program have volunteered 139,050 hours and have donated more than 160,000 pounds of fresh produce, meat and eggs to their local communities; and

     WHEREAS, the incredible accomplishments by Jumpertown FFA epitomize the FFA motto, "Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve"; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Jumpertown High School Future Farmers of America program for its involvement in the Food For All grant program and taking on the challenge of developing techniques and community outreach programs that fight the hunger epidemic in this state.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jumpertown High School FFA and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
