House Resolution 75

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MCCOMB HIGH SCHOOL TIGERS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS ASSOCIATION CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, on March 14, 2015, the McComb High School Tigers Boys Basketball Team defeated Quitman in an electrifying 52-40 win to claim the Mississippi High School Athletics Association (MHSAA) Class 4A State Championship for the second year in a row; and

WHEREAS, finishing the season with an outstanding 31 wins and only one loss, this win is the third championship in program history for the Tigers, whose first title came in 1962; and

WHEREAS, eager to showcase their abilities, the Tigers played with determination and dominated on offense and defense from the get-go, holding Quitman to only three points in the first quarter; and

WHEREAS, after going into halftime up 21-12, the Tigers knew that the title would be theirs as long as they continued to make stops and force Quitman to take bad shots; and

WHEREAS, after the final buzzer sounded, the Tigers hoisted up the championship trophy, declaring that they are just getting started and will play in many more championship games in the years to come; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers have been superbly coached and led by Head Coach Hilton Harrell, who has now won two championships with the Tigers in his 21 years at McComb and has refined the Tigers' skills on the court; and

WHEREAS, although there were several standout performances by McComb High's players, this championship win was a result of teamwork and unselfish play, with every teammate understanding their role and executing it perfectly; and

WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Tigers' roster is: Tredarius Lee, Antonio Cowart, Zarkeichious Martin, Michael Martin, Tyre Robinson, Emanuel Thompson, Carlos Porter, Jeremiah Gardner, James Williams, Zantavius Green, Quadarius Green, Tredarius Pittman, Kadarron Mason and Head Coach Hilton Harrell; and

WHEREAS, the Tigers have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to McComb High School and the State of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the outstanding student athletes of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the McComb High School Tigers Boys Basketball Team for winning back-to-back MHSAA Class 4A Boys State Championships and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to McComb High School Principal Robert Lamkin, Head Coach Hilton Harrell and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
