A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. MACK L. WILLIAMSON AND EXPRESSING SYMPATHY UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, "To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, the earthly season of life for Mr. Mack L. Williamson, ended on February 16, 2015, at the blessed age of 94; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Williamson lived a bold life as a God-fearing man, a true patriot, a Southern Gentleman, and a loving, devoted and caring husband during his 94 years of life; and
WHEREAS, born on March 11, 1920, in Sumrall, Mississippi, where he was raised and received his education in the Sumrall School System, where he was a member of the Sumrall High School State Championship Team of 1933/1934; and
WHEREAS, a distinguished World War II veteran, he served aboard the U.S.S. Anthony, a destroyer in the Pacific Theater, was offshore on the U.S.S. Anthony approximately 175 miles when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945; and
WHEREAS, he was honorably discharged in December 1946; and
WHEREAS, after he returned from the war, he began a 34 year career as a civil servant at the Veteran's Administration Hospital on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where he served his fellow veterans of World War II and those from the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts; and
WHEREAS, in his personal life, he was lovingly married to Jeanette Shaw Williamson for 75 years, and to their loving union, one son, Roger, was born; and
WHEREAS, a sports fan, he was a passionate coach for Little League and Babe Ruth baseball and over a span of 30 years, he officiated at over 3,000 high school and junior college basketball games; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor our veterans who were also great Mississippi citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life, legacy and service of Mr. Mack L. Williamson and express sympathy upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Mack L. Williamson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
