A RESOLUTION COMMENDING ERNEST CAIN QUALLS UPON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A VOCATIONAL AGRICULTURE TEACHER WITH TYLERTOWN HIGH SCHOOL.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Ernest Cain Qualls is retiring from a long career as a Vocational Agriculture teacher at Gulledge Memorial High School after many years of dedicated service to its students; and

     WHEREAS, born in Siloam, Mississippi, as the fourth child of Samuel and Beatrice Richardson Qualls, he was the only boy in his senior class at Meadville High School in Franklin County; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force, a great disappointment to his mother as she had her mind set on him going to college, so upon the end of his fourth year in the Air Force, his mother enrolled him at Alcorn A & M(now Alcorn State University); and

     WHEREAS, it was at Alcorn that Ernest met his future wife, Elsie; and

     WHEREAS, after graduating from Alcorn, Mr. Qualls began teaching Vocational Agriculture at Gulledge Memorial High School during the fall of 1961, and his dear Elsie joined the school a year later as a teacher in the Tylertown School System; and

     WHEREAS, they married in 1962, and to their blessed union, three children, Ernest Jr., Elceria and Errol were born; and

     WHEREAS, Ernest and Elsie used their summers to return to school in a masters program, with Ernest earning a master's degree in agriculture education from Tuskegee University, Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1970 and Elsie earning her master's degree in special education; and

     WHEREAS, Ernest has been heavily involved in the Future Farmers of America, so much so that attendance at the events have become a family staple; and

     WHEREAS, with a heavy heart, Mr. Qualls retired after many years of dedicated service, and now enjoys traveling with his loving wife and also enjoys his favorite hobbies; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the professional accomplishments of men whose professional lives prepare youth for the future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we hereby commend Ernest Cain Qualls upon his retirement after many years of dedicated service as a Vocational Agriculture teacher with Tylertown High School. 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Ernest Cain Qualls and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
