A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISS GABRIELLE "GABBY" GILL OF BAY HIGH SCHOOL UPON BEING NAMED A 2015 RECIPIENT OF THE HORATIO ALGER NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP.

WHEREAS, Waveland, Mississippi, native and Bay High School Senior Gabrielle "Gabby" Gill, has been recently named a distinguished scholar and a recipient of the prestigious Horatio Alger National Scholarship for 2015; and

WHEREAS, since 1984, the Horatio Alger Association has been funding need-based college scholarships to support deserving young people to overcome their adversity and pursue their dreams through higher education, having awarded $100,000,000 to approximately 20,000 students to date; and

WHEREAS, the daughter of Ms. Joan Veronica Gill, Gabby joins an elite fraternity of 106 students across the nation to receive the $22,000 award, which recognizes outstanding students who, in the face of great adversity, have exhibited an admirable commitment to continuing their education and serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, a part-time employee at the Waveland Pharmacy, Gabby, who is a member of the Bay High School National Honor Society and the quiz bowl team, enjoys the subjects of science, mathematics and Spanish, and has prospects to attend the University of South Alabama, where she intends to study biochemistry in pursuit of a career as a pharmacist or pediatrician; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated member of the Church of Our Lord Jesus, where she sings in the choir and is a Sunday School leader, the young, talented and persevering Miss Gill, remains a stellar academic achiever and this honor places her among the state's ambassadors for scholastic excellence; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the outstanding accomplishment of Mississippi's young scholars of Miss Gill's caliber, whose achievements bring great pride and honor to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Gabrielle "Gabby" Gill of Bay High School upon being named a 2015 Recipient of the Horatio Alger National Scholarship and extend most sincere wishes for continued success in all of her academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Gabrielle "Gabby" Gill, Dr. Amy Coyne, principal of Bay High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
