House Resolution 10

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE WILDCAT MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAMS ON EARNING THE TITLE OF 2014 REGION 23 MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Pearl River Community College Wildcats and the Lady Wildcats Soccer Squads have earned the distinguished honor of being the 2014 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges-Region 23 Champions in the male and female categories; and

WHEREAS, these teams are known for partnering championships because both teams achieved twin championships in 2012; and

WHEREAS, the celebrated men's team has claimed the championship title for Pearl River Community College for three straight years; and

WHEREAS, the men's team of Wildcats have fierce hearts, and fought throughout the season, causing them to eventually defeat the Mississippi Gulf Coast 2-1 in a shootout; and

WHEREAS, the men's team was impressively coached by Coach Paul Martin, who has given his team's hard work all the credit; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Wildcats dropped 12th ranked and undefeated Jones County 4-0 in a double-overtime semi-final game in a shootout scenario; and

WHEREAS, much to the pride and joy of the Lady Wildcats' coach, Jack Byrd, whose coaching style continued to guide and motivate the ladies to victory, believes that the ladies caught their stride and their chemistry jelled together; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize the accomplishments of Mississippians such as this group of student athletes who have brought pride to their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Men's Wildcats and the Lady Wildcats Soccer Squads on their phenomenal feat of becoming the 2014 Champions in Region 23 of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pearl River Community College, Coach Paul Martin, Coach Jack Byrd and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
