House Concurrent Resolution 121

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING MR. JIMMY BLAINE FISHER AS THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2015 CORINTH JUNIOR AUXILIARY  OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Jimmy Blaine Fisher has been honored as Corinth Junior Auxiliary's Outstanding Citizen of the Year 2015; and

     WHEREAS, the 73-year-old has contributed to all positive aspects of life in the Corinth/Alcorn area; and

     WHEREAS, he is known throughout the community as a generous soul with a big heart for others; and

     WHEREAS, so well respected, Mr. Blaine Fisher was nominated for the prestigious honor by a past recipient of the honor, Attorney Johnny Ross and the county coroner, Jay Jones; and

     WHEREAS, his contributions have been a tremendous stimulant to the cultural, educational and civic betterment of Corinth; and

     WHEREAS, he was a youth judge for 17 years, was an active member of the Boys Scouts of America, and volunteered with the Corinth School System for many years; and

     WHEREAS, a self-employed attorney with Sharp, Fisher and Borden Attorneys, he worked in his family's hardware and furniture store in his early teens and later as an attorney for the Tennessee Valley Authority before moving to Corinth; and

     WHEREAS, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Corinth for 46 years, he was also active with the Habitat for Humanity, the Corinth Alcorn Area Chamber of Commerce and a committee member for Industrial Development and Recruitment and Tourism, Young Men's Christian Association, the Corinth Boys Club and a planning committee member of the 1973, 1976 and 1979 Crossroads Jubilee; and

     WHEREAS, a devout Methodist, he is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Corinth, of which he has been a member since 1969; and

     WHEREAS, during his 15 years with the Corinth School Board, of which he has served as president, he afforded many opportunities to positively influence students; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor the lives of citizens who work hard to improve their community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby congratulate Mr. Jimmy Blaine Fisher as the recipient of the 2015 Corinth Junior Auxiliary Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Jimmy Blaine Fisher and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
