A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE OF MRS. LURLENE PARTLOW ROGERS OF PLANTERSVILLE AND CONGRATULATING HER ON THE MOST AUSPICIOUS OCCASION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Lurlene Partlow Rogers, born on April 1, 1915, on a farm east of Plantersville, Mississippi, to the late Will C. and Moman Whitehead Partlow, eagerly anticipates the celebration of the 100th anniversary of her birth on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, to be commemorated with a celebration acknowledging and honoring her motherhood and service; and

     WHEREAS, having grown up surrounded by the love of a great family, Mrs. Lurlene attended the public schools in Plantersville, graduating in 1935 with the August inaugural Class of Plantersville High School, which consisted of ten eager and determined academicians enthused about embarking upon on the next ventures of excellence and success in life; and

     WHEREAS, as fate would lend itself to the building upon the blueprint divinely designed for the pattern of her life by the great deity and grand architect of our lives' design, the former Ms. Partlow's heart was pierced by the love, chivalry and affection of farmer and businessman, James J. Rogers, and the duo became bone of one another's bone and flesh of one another's flesh after exchanging the nuptials of holy matrimony in 1935, taking his surname as her own, building a lifetime of memories to be shared with the addition of two children, Pat Rogers Langston and James J. "Jamie" Rogers, Jr., and sharing in life's momentous occasions until it was orchestrated by God in divine providence to summon the life of Mr. Rogers to that eternal paradise in the sky; and

     WHEREAS, Lurlene, a woman of profound resolve and determination, was not intimidated by work and undeterred by a challenge, and began working early on in the throngs of adulthood at her cousin, Lillian Rogers' Cotton Brokerage Firm; and

     WHEREAS, in the 1950s, Mrs. Rogers became an employee of the Plantersville Post Office, a position she kept for over 30 years, including her service at various intervals as Postmaster; and

     WHEREAS, a God-fearing Christian before all other roles she assumed, a devoted wife and nurturing mother next, Mrs. Lurlene is the living embodiment of a woman of Proverbs 31:10 virtuosity and distinction, possessing an ambitious spirit akin to that of King David as she seeks to be a woman after God's own heart, committed to her faith, her family and her friends of her home area of 100 years, being an upstanding pillar of the Plantersville community and a beloved figure in her church, The Plantersville United Methodist Church; and

     WHEREAS, the family icon who has witnessed many historic events, including the invention of Henry Ford's Model T automobile, the Wright brothers' first airplane flight and man's ascension into space and first walk on the moon, Mrs. Lurlene has been blessed with a prosperous life of health, longevity, spirituality and love from her family and friends, as she has abounded in wisdom and knowledge to become the matriarch of her family; and

     WHEREAS, with her profound faith and the unyielding support of her family, Mrs. Rogers leads an exemplary life, exuding the love of Christ through her tender love, care and impartation of the values of self-assuredness, perseverance, service and benevolence obtained with her years of wisdom into the lives of all whom she has encountered during her life's movements; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to commend the life of such an outstanding individual as Mrs. Lurlene Rogers, who attributes her longevity to good, clean, moral living and her faith in God, as she celebrates this most auspicious occasion with her family and friends, as she now becomes a proud member of the Centenarian Club:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby express gratitude and thanksgiving for the life of Mrs. Lurlene Partlow Rogers, congratulate her on 100 years of a beautiful well-lived earthly pilgrimage on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, and express sincere wishes for continued health, joy, peace and prosperity for years to come.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Lurlene Partlow Rogers and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
