House Concurrent Resolution 89

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING CHRISTY PHILIPPOFF, PH.D., FOR BEING HONORED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

WHEREAS, Dr. Christy Philippoff, a resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, has been honored as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college; and

WHEREAS, the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Philippoff, a science instructor, has been employed at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past five years and has taught for the past eleven years, helping countless students on their way to successful careers; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Philippoff received her doctorate of philosophy in science education, masters of science, and bachelor of science from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Philippoff sponsored the Circle K Club, teaches an ACT preparation workshop and works to link community college instructors with research scientists; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Philippoff, a respected member of the Oceanography Society, has served her community by presenting lectures on science-related topics at local elementary schools, participating in area clean-ups and volunteering to help students study for the biology Praxis so they could become teachers in that field; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Dr. Philippoff, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF

REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE

CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Christy Philippoff for being honored as the Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend heartiest wishes of success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Christy Philippoff and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
